Bone Broth Diet Update – 72 hour fast

Hola from Florida (again)!

Tristan and I just finished the fasting stage of the bone broth diet, which is supposed to be the worst stage. During the fasting stage, you are only supposed to have water and bone broth for 72 hours straight, so that your gut can be cleansed from food and harmful toxins and so that the lining of your gut can have a chance to be restored by all the amazing benefits of bone broth.

(If you want to know more about this stage or the bone broth diet as a whole, checkout this post where I wrote all about it!)

Overall, Tristan did pretty well during the fast. He was tired and starting getting a bit dizzy and nauseous towards the end, but otherwise he was okay. I am so thankful to have Tristan doing this diet with me. He’s the constantly encouraging me and pushing me to keep going when I start feeling ready to give up. Also, he’s my accountability partner and hid all the chocolate in the house so that me and my sweet tooth wouldn’t be tempted 😉

The first day I had a splitting headache, my stomach hurt, and I was nauseous, but I managed to drink about 3 cups of bone broth and a pear (I have low blood sugar, so my doctor recommended eating pears when needed during the fast, because it gave my body good sugar and was also super easy for my gut to process).

The second day was really rough. I was more nauseous than I’ve ever been in my life, and so dizzy I could barely even sit up. I was only able to drink one cup of bone broth, and I ended up caving in and getting some organic cranberry water around 1pm that day (39 hours into the fast).

I was getting super sick and weak, so Tristan and I decided to cut the fast at 48 hours. We’re listening to my body and changing the plan up a bit as we go, which is something I would definitely recommend for any of you deciding to do this diet as well.

Though the fast was hard, I do know that it was also extremely good for my body! I was nauseous, but looking past that I have been able to realize how much better my stomach starting feeling and that it was even holding just liquids better than it had been before I went on the diet. Additionally, the fast helped my brain fog immensely!

We couldn’t make it all 72 hours straight, but we plan to do half day & whole day bone broth fasts every week during stage two, and we’ll let you know how it goes!

That’s all for now, but I’ll continue to keep you guys updated. You can subscribe here to make sure you don’t miss any new posts on this topic! 🙂

Blessings & Love,
